I am excited to be back in class with the children and I hope that we will all have a great deal of fun learning about music during this first semester. |

| | 2 November - 8 NovemberHappy November! This is my first of eighteen weeks here at Crab Orchard School this year, and I am delighted to be back. I started my year this year with nine weeks at Pine View School. Mrs. Markham and I have switched schools now for the next two marking periods, and the children at COS will be having music class instead of art for a while. Mrs. Markham will be back in the spring to finish the year, and I will return to Pine View at that time.
This week in Music class we are settling in to our new schedule. I will be reviewing rules and class behavior with the students. We will be beginning to discuss and arrange our Holiday Program that is planned for December ninth.
Skill wise, we will be learning about the beat, and how to follow a conductor in the primary classes, and learning about the staff, lines, spaces, and note names in the elementary classes. Sixth grade will be learning about the C Major scale, and will be playing this scale on the xylophone.

In addition to reviewing opera vocabulary words that we learned last week we will be hearing the story of "The Magic Flute" and hearing some selections from the opera during our listening time. Hopefully, becoming familiar with the characters and music will make the opera more enjoyable for the students.
We will also continue to work school wide on our concepts of beat and rhythm. We have been enjoying learning to move with the beat and then switching to move with the rhythm of the words. |
